Changing The Way This Site Looks
You can change the way this website looks to suit your needs. The settings available differ from browser to browser, but most browsers offer some or all of the following:
Changing the Font Size
You can adjust the size of nearly all the text on this website by using the font size setting in your browser. This setting is found in the ‘View’ menu of most browsers.
Other Text and Colour Changes
Some browsers allow you to change the default font and background colours you use. These settings are usually found in the ‘Options’ or ‘Preferences’ menus.
Use a ‘Plain’ Layout
Many browsers allow you to strip a web page of all layout and styling by turning off the website style sheets. If your browser supports this setting you will most likely find it in the ‘View’ menu.
Standards Compliance
- All pages on this site are WCAG AAA approved, complying with all priority 1, 2, and 3 guidelines of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.
- All pages on this site are Section 508 approved, complying with all of the US Federal Government Section 508 Guidelines.
- All pages on this site validate as XHTML 1.0 transitional.
Cascading Stylesheets (CSS)
This site uses cascading style sheets for layout and presentation.
This site uses relative font sizes to enable users to resize text using the ‘text size’ option in visual browsers.
If your browser or browsing device does not support stylesheets at all, the content of each page is still readable and presented in a logical order.
A separate print stylesheet is used to remove unnecessary navigation elements and to ensure that all the information you need fits on A4 paper. This also saves ink, avoids problems with printer reformatting and usually uses fewer pages than directly printing a web page.
Keyboard Access Keys
Most browsers support jumping to specific links by typing keys defined on the website. On Internet Explorer, you can press ALT + an access key then Enter; on Firefox press ALT + SHIFT + an access key; on Macintosh, you can press Control + an access key. There is a ‘Skip Navigation’ option on every page which takes you straight to the main page text.
All pages on this site define the following access keys:
- Access key h - homepage
- Access key s - skip navigation
- Access key 1 - about our accommodation
- Access key 2 - about our bedrooms
- Access key 3 - dining in
- Access key 4 - dining out
- Access key 5 - recreation information
- Access key 6 - location information
- Access key 7 - about us
- Access key c - contact us
- Access key t - terms and conditions
- Access key p - privacy
- Access key a - accessibility information and site map
Links
Links embedded in the main content have been styled using colour and emphasis to appear distinct from the rest of the content, even to colourblind users. When you use the tab button to move through the links the current link will either change colour or a dotted line will appear around the link.
Care has been taken to ensure that links are described logically rather than 'click here' to make sense out of context. Hovering over all links will display a message explaining where the link will take you.
None of the links on this site will open up a new window, so you will be able to find your way back to our site by using the back button on your browser or pressing the BACKSPACE key on your keyboard.
This site uses a different colour/hue to display links that have already been visited to help you to know where they have been.
Images
All content images used in this site include descriptive ALT and TITLE attributes. If you hover over the image you will be able to see the description of the image displayed.
